How much do I save by summarizing before the LLM?
Teams with long inputs keep asking whether they should estimate savings from summarizing inputs before the main LLM call. The honest answer needs the cost, the value and the payback period together — which is exactly what this tool computes so the decision is a number, not a hunch.

Why this isn't trivial
The part people underestimate: sending full documents to a premium model is costly, so a cheap pre-summary can slash the expensive model's input tokens. In practice the biggest savings come from pre-summarizing with a budget model before the premium step, so it is worth modelling before you commit.
How it's calculated
We estimate this by comparing the premium model's cost on full input against its cost on a cheaply produced summary. Every figure uses the current provider prices baked into the site (reviewed daily), and you can override any input to match your own assumptions.
Frequently asked questions
Doesn't summarizing add cost?+
A little, on a cheap model — usually far less than the input tokens it saves downstream.
When is this worth it?+
When inputs are long and the downstream model is expensive.
Are these prices up to date?+
Yes. The model prices behind this calculator are refreshed and reviewed daily, so your estimate reflects current provider rates rather than a stale snapshot.
