Subscription vs pay-as-you-go API
Perplexity's subscription covers the answer engine; its Sonar API is billed separately per request (and adds a search fee). For search-grounded chat the flat Pro plan is simplest; for programmatic use, price the Sonar API with the Perplexity API cost calculator.
