Why does code tokenize differently?+

Code has more symbols and short tokens, so it packs slightly fewer characters per token than prose.

Which ratio should I use?+

About 4 chars/token for English prose, ~3.3 for code, ~3.5 for JSON. Non-Latin scripts are far denser.
